For the Dreamer

You do wander
Through fairytale dreams.
You've gone through pain.
Your heart's ripped at the seams.

Like a river you travel
Through mud, trees and rock,
Constantly checking
The ever ticking clock.

The rushing.
The waiting.
There is no in between.

Has life lost its wonder?
Its color?
Its sheen?

It can't be
That bad.
Not after all
The effort and work.
The tumble and fall.

Where are you now?
Are you still there?
Lost in the woods,
Without a care?

Must you keep waiting
For life to begin?
Must you keep fighting
Until you win?

Who are you really?
A willow?
A flower?
Do you still have
That special power?

To rise from the mud,
The dirt and the grime.
To find your true nature?
The reason?
The rhyme?

Are you too selfish?
Or not selfish enough?
Will you continue forward
When the roads get too rough?

Have I lost you?
Or tossed you aside?
Is there somewhere you've found?
A safe place to hide?

Inspiration, it seems
Was your true goal.
It was part of your charm.
Your aura.
Your soul.

Beautiful dreamer
Will you heed the call?
To find your true purpose
And tear down that wall?

What do you see
From where you stand?
Am I the person
For whom you demand?

Did I follow the steps
You scribbled on paper?
In another time
Where life seemed much safer.

Where choices were simple,
And happiness, easy.
No dream was silly,
Stupid or cheesy.

If you can hear me
From the grey to the light,
In the starry sky
That shines so bright

I'm sorry I forgot you
And pushed you away.
I'm determined to find you
And ask you to stay.

Hand in hand we'll run
Through flowers and rain.
We'll laugh, cry
Let go of the pain.

From there we'll talk
Through anger and guilt
And create a blueprint
For the life we have built.

Note to Self

You are strong
Even when you feel weak.
You are brave
Even when you are afraid.
You are capable
Of what you set your mind to.
You are moving
Even when you feel
that you are standing still.

You are loved
Even when you feel loathed.
You are beautiful
Even on days that you feel
you are not.
You are amazing
Especially during the times
you feel like nothing at all.

You are not
alone,
helpless,
pathetic,
or broken.

You are
who you are.

Smelling the Roses

I'll admit that I'm always in a hurry, and I'm always giving myself deadlines, goals to meet and I'm pretty much my own worst critic. I hardly ever stop to smell the roses. I notice them, admire them from a far, but then I'm on to the next task. It's easy to get caught up in the rush of a daily schedule from work to play. Many people get stressed out during vacations- and it's easy to get caught up in the fray.
One of the things I must practice is appreciating the here and now, the present moment.
This is essential for a writer, observer and an artist. Part of art is getting caught up in the moment, whatever that moment may be.
It's one way to feel grateful for what's around you. It's a different perspective.
Is it easy? No. It's very difficult because most everyone is doing the same thing- complaining, rushing from one place to the next. And yes, I've done my fair share of complaining, but sometimes the healthier and happier choice is to appreciate the here and now.

The Year in Review

This year was filled with lessons, reflections and choices.
I began the year with my friends in South Korea, norebanging- (karaoke) and finishing my project for my trilogy.
In January I finished my trilogy- plot wise.

In Feburary I celebrated Lunar New Year at the Gold Buddha Temple.
I made a wish...

and I saw Hong Kong Disneyland!
I reflected on my life so far at the Lotus statue:
In March, I focused on my new story based on Cupid and Psyche- I visited a beautiful Buddhist private school with my friend Whitney and drew inspiration for my Korean Fairytale story:
In April, I explored Jeju island!
And I saw my favorite flowers: Cherry Blossoms around South Korea!

In May, I become an Agent of Shield!

And I reflected on my experience teaching English in South Korea:

In June, I visited my friend Becca

 explored San Francisco,

and I went to Disneyland for their 60th anniversary courtesy of my friend Becca :)

In July, I went to the Dragon Boat festival:
Began researching butterflies . . .
And my friend Kim came to visit! We went to a cool Mythology exhibit!

In August, I did a lot of soul searching, and writing.

September came with many changes . . .

I lost someone very dear to me . . .

My Uncle Huey, who loved great stories, comic book heroes, and his daughter Jamie.

October was a soul searching month as well . . .

I met some cool people . . .

I landed a job close to my home away from home:

I witnessed a beautiful wedding for someone I've known all my life:

In November I started a new life in a new place:

Faced some dragons.

And in December I found the force again . . .

I learned a lot about gratitude

Saw some beautiful things. And hope to be more grateful for each day I have.

For the new year:

My resolutions are

1. Publish my novel
2. Practice more gratitude
3. Listen to my heart
4. Never give up
5. Keep Moving Forward

Happy National Dog Day!

It's good to celebrate man's best friend!
These are my bestfriends: Haley and Dingo.

Haley was a beautiful Black Lab, and Dad and I named her after Hale Bop Comet.
Haley loved going hiking, and when she was a puppy, her first fourteener was Mount Sherman at four months old!
Like any dog, Haley loved treats . . .
but she really loved snow!
Haley and I went on many adventures together.
She went hiking, camping and even canoeing!

Haley was the sweetest black lab I will ever know :)
When Haley was fourteen Dingo joined the family. And he fit right in.
I think he enjoyed Halloween as much as Haley did.
But he does like furniture.
Dingo enjoys hiking as well . . .
but his favorite thing is sunbathing.
Dingo is one happy pup!

The Dragon Pearl

I found the necklace near a stream, when I was out for a walk, far from the village.
I was only seven then, and I was already the talk of the town.
"Why does she daydream so much?" the villagers asked. "Doesn't she know that's a sign of the mystic world?"
Of course I knew, but I couldn't help it. I was, after all, only seven. So I went to the outskirts of the forest, wondering what lie beyond the houses and gardens that I saw everyday.
First, there was a stream, with a waterfall that mumbled like an old man.
And there, in the water, near the edge, I saw something shining. I pulled out the object, admiring the silver dragon, curled around the most beautiful pearl I had ever seen. It seemed to glow as the sun came out from the clouds.
"You shouldn't be here." a voice said.
I looked up from the pearl, and I saw a boy. He was no ordinary boy. I knew that from his strange outfit. It looked fit for a prince. Two blue dragons adorned the belt of a pearl white silk robe. His hair was not pulled back, but he stood straight, unafraid of anything.
"That belongs to me." he said, pointing at the necklace.
"Oh." I said. I had forgotten what I was holding.
"Who are you girl?" he asked, "And why are you here?"
"My name is Shimcheong." I said, "Who are you?"
The boy stared for a moment, then he scratched his head.
"My name would be . . . difficult for you to pronounce. You can call me Yong."
"Hello Yong." I said, smiling. It was rare that I met someone my own age, or at least someone who looked like it.
He smiled, and held out his hand.
I gave him the necklace and he laughed.
"Do you know what this is?" he asked.
"It's a dragon pearl." I said, "but why is it here?"
"I'm surprised that you know it." Yong said, "Not many people talk of the dragons anymore."
"My mom did." I said. "They were my favorite stories."
"That's fascinating." the boy said. "But I'm afraid I can't tell you why the pearl is here."
"Why not?" I asked, stomping my foot.
He smiled at me again.
"Because I don't know." he said.
"Is it yours?" I asked.
"It might be." he said.
I stared at him.
He stared back, and handed me the necklace.
"Will you hold on to it for me?" he asked.
I stared at him.
"Why?" I asked.
"Because it chose you." he replied.
As he handed me the necklace, I thought I saw the silver dragon wink at me.
"You must keep it safe. Until I return." Yong said.
I nodded and placed the pearl in the palm of my hand.
"I will." I said.
"Good." Yong replied.
But, when I looked up, he was gone, and I didn't see any footprints on the ground where he stood.
As I walked back to the village, hiding the necklace in my hanbok. I thought I had spoken with a ghost.
At first, I went to the stream every day, searching for Yong. But, as the years passed, and no one came, I visited the stream less often
When I turned sixteen, the crops began to go bad, and my father slowly went blind.
The villagers began to whisper that I was bad luck, and my father and I did what we could to manage the farm, but we soon had no choice but to sell it.
People said that the Dragon King was angry, and the clouds blocked the sun. No farm did well that year, and as my father and I moved from the farm to a hut near the village gate, I began to wonder if I held the key to our salvation.
One night, when the wind howled and the rain poured, I pulled out the necklace.
The silver had never tarnished, and the pearl still glowed. I stared at the dragon, closed my eyes and made a wish.
Thats when it all began.

For a butterfly . . .

You may be
small now
but
do not fret
You just don't
have
your wings
yet.
Soon you will,
and soon you'll see
the sky is
the best place to be.
I know you're scared
I know you're confused.
Maybe even battered,
broken and bruised.
Your time in the cocoon
is nearly gone.
The time will come
to move on.
And when it does
do not cry
because change
is an opportunity
to fly.

The Butterfly

The wonder of the butterfly
is the conflict you never see.
They are champions
of the greatest battle
on Earth: shedding the old
to welcome the new.
Many people know
the beauty of
a butterfly.
They don't see
the struggle and the pain.
The process from one thing
to another.
From crawling to flying.
From clinging to falling.
Breaking the walls of a shelter
made only to be destroyed.
Earning wings
is a trial of things
challenging and new.
The celebration of a victor
who overcame the odds.
The life of one who flies.

Imagination

It is a song to the soul.
Magic in the real
And at times confusing world.
Great heroes and heroines go on
 Incredible journeys that reflect the
Noble spirit craving for
Adventure
Thoughts that humanity enjoys through
 Inspiration of fantasy
On the winding path,
Neverending.
